Meridian Hosts Public Safety Day

Meridian Fire and Police Departments invite the community to celebrate crime and fire prevention months with Meridian Public Safety Day. The event will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Fire Station One (540 E. Franklin Road), with free hot dogs at noon.

“While we are trained and ready to fight fires and mitigate other emergencies, our first priority is to prevent them from occurring,” said Meridian Fire Public Education Division Manager Pam Orr. “Prevention and awareness are critical components to any effective public safety program. Public Safety Day will give residents up-close and hands-on experiences to help them to stay safe. This open house is sure to be a fun and informative day!”

Participants will see demonstrations from Public Safety agencies including: a live fire demonstration, a cardiac arrest demonstration, a vehicle extrication demonstration, K-9, traffic RADAR, fingerprint lifting, and more. There will also be booths set up for residents to explore many safety topics, including car seat and helmet safety, 911 simulations, trying on SWAT gear, hearing from the Meridian Anti-Drug Coalition, and tour a fire house designed to teach families exit drills from the home. Families will also be able to enjoy time with police and fire officials, Sparky the Fire Dog, and have their faces painted.
