U.S. Representatives Russ Fulcher and Mike Simpson, alongside U.S. Senators Jim Risch and Mike Crapo, have extended their commendation to President Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem for efforts at the southern border. In a letter, the Idaho delegation remarked on recent developments: "Under your leadership, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has arrested over 14,000 convicted illegal criminals within the first 50 days, many of which were known cartel and gang members."
The letter praises the significant reduction in apprehensions at the southern border, noting, "Our nation is witnessing the lowest number of apprehensions at the southern border in over 15 years, sending a clear message to dangerous criminals that they are no longer welcome to come into the U.S. Your aggressive action to secure and safeguard our border has made our neighborhoods safer." They expressed a desire to support ongoing efforts by stating, "As members of the Idaho delegation, we look forward to working together to provide the resources you need to maintain this historic border security."
The delegation also recognized actions taken within Idaho under the leadership of Governor Brad Little, who has sent state law enforcement personnel to Texas and Arizona. The goal was to assist these states in addressing what the delegation describes as the Biden administration’s border crisis. Idaho has instituted measures such as a dedicated drug interdiction unit and initiatives aimed at countering drug and human trafficking.
The Idaho delegation's letter underscores a cooperative stance in bolstering border security measures and highlights the role that local and state governments can play in national security issues.
