National Medicine Abuse Awareness & Substance Abuse Prevention Month on Oct 1

Sat Oct 1st - Mon 31st

MADC

Did you know that one in 5 young adults has abused a prescription drug and that one in 25 youth, ages 12 through 17, has abused cough medicine to get high from its dextromethorphan ingredient? National Medicine Abuse Awareness Month (NMAAM) is an annual campaign, observed throughout the month of October, to raise the public’s awareness of the dangers of prescription and over-the-counter medicine abuse. In 2011, President Obama issued the first-ever Presidential Proclamation designating October as National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. The tradition continues as parents, youth, schools and community leaders across the country join this month-long observance of the role that substance abuse prevention plays in promoting safe and healthy communities. Watch for community events correlating to these national observances.
