MERIDIAN - City of Meridian invites community members to be involved with the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget process ahead of the final approval in September. Over the past several months, Mayor Simison and city staff have been working to develop a proposed budget for council consideration. There will be several opportunities for Meridian residents to learn more about the proposed budget, which is available for public review on the City of Meridian’s website, HERE.
“We have worked diligently to produce a balanced budget that continues to provide our residents with premier services. This budget will help us meet the needs of our employees along with expectations of our residents and business community,” said Meridian Chief Financial Officer, Todd Lavoie.
The proposed budget will be presented to Meridian City Council during two budget workshops, covering how the budget was built, capital and personnel needs and anticipated revenues. The first budget workshop is June 15 and begins at 9:15am. The second budget workshop is June 29 and begins at 10am. The public is welcome to attend in person or watch online through our YouTube Channel or website. All recommended revisions to the budget will be incorporated and made available for public review on July 18, 2023, on the City of Meridian's website, HERE.
A balanced budget will be presented to the citizens of Meridian during a City Council public hearing on Tuesday August 15, 2023, beginning at 6:00pm at Meridian City Hall. The Finance Department will present the balanced proposed budget to the citizens that is open to public comment. Staff will be available to answer any questions and proposed changes discussed during the public hearing. Public comments can be emailed to comment@meridiancity.org or mailed to Meridian City Clerk. The deadline for written public comments during the public hearing is Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 6:00pm.
“The budget process is unique with proposals for major investments in our long-term goals including in public safety, park amenities and services that the community asks for. Having an open public process is a commitment that the city has to be transparent as the budget development process unfolds,” said Mayor Robert Simison.
Following the public hearing, Meridian City Council will formally vote on FY24 budget on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 6:00pm. The meeting, like all other city council meetings, can be viewed online through our YouTube Channel or website. Once the FY24 budget is approved, funds will be appropriated to the programs defined in budget details on October 1, 2023. Mayor Simison and city departments will execute and manage the budget as organized in the approved budget.
