The City of Boise is proposing to use Open Space and Clean Water levy funds to purchase and preserve 1-acre of property in West Boise for a future park and open space site. The undeveloped property is located off Fairview Avenue at 915 N. Shamrock Street. The purchase of this property will preserve critical open space in an area with high-density housing and commercial land uses. The total purchase price for the property is approximately $800,000, plus costs for closing and due diligence.

The seller, MJV Properties, is currently involved in local residential development. Should Boise City Council approve the acquisition, the future park site will offer nearly 2,600 residents from over 900 households access to an open space site within a 10-minute walk from their homes.

“This purchase wouldn’t be possible without continued community support for open spaces, parks, and outdoor recreation,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “Our goal is for every resident of Boise to be within a 10-minute walk to public outdoor space. This property is a meaningful step toward realizing that future.”    

The City of Boise is committed to ensuring accessible parks and open spaces for everyone. If purchased, the Shamrock St. Park Site will expand open space access in West Boise. A timeline for any park amenity development has not yet been established. The future park site would be added to the city’s parks and open space system to be enjoyed by generations to come.   

“Preserving parks and open space is an integral part of our city’s commitment to public access to these spaces,” said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “The opportunity to purchase this future park site improves community wellness through access to open space, conservation, and recreational opportunities.”  

Boise City Council members will consider the purchase at their regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10. Watch live on the city’s website.
