Ribbon Cutting for New Pickleball Courts in Kleiner Park

The public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, November 15, at 3:00 pm, for a new pickleball facility located in the northwest corner of Meridian’s Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park at 1900 N. Records Avenue.

The four new pickleball courts are the result of a public-private partnership between the City of Meridian and Brighton Corporation and Ball Ventures LLC, the two companies that jointly own the nearby Bri at the Village 55+ active adult apartment community. Under the terms of a construction and joint use agreement with the City, BVBC paid for the construction of the pickleball facility in exchange for six hours of priority use for Bri residents each week – Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10:00 am – Noon. At most other times, the courts will be available for use by the general public. This agreement will remain in place for a period of ten years.

According to Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway, “This project is a win-win for everyone involved and demonstrates the great things that can be accomplished through partnership and collaboration.” He adds, “Given the tremendous popularity of pickleball, we have every reason to believe these courts will be greatly appreciated and well used for many years to come.”

David Turnbull, founder of the Brighton Corporation, says, ““Once again, we are excited to partner with Meridian City Parks and Recreation and be able to construct pickleball courts within Kleiner Park. We appreciate the City’s willingness to collaborate so that Meridian residents can have additional recreational options in this amazing park.”

Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park is a 60-acre park which was donated to the City of Meridian by Eugene Kleiner in 2012 in honor of his late father, Julius M. Kleiner, who used to farm the land on which the park now sits. The park’s amenities include two large fishing ponds, five picnic shelters, a playground and outdoor gym, an arboretum with labyrinth, an amphitheater, a story trail, the Rock of Honor Veterans Memorial, the Meridian Senior Center, and several pieces of public art.
